The customer suggested there was money in the account and the jeweler suggested he call his bank, After the customer called the bank and handed the phone to the jeweler the bank then instructed him on how to force the transaction through. At this point the jeweler recognized the signs and opted not to proceed any further. The customer then left in a dark grey Chevy pickup truck with another male suspect in the truck. the plate numbers are unknown though the front plate was a cardboard plate with a North Carolina logo. Many of the missing packages were sent to California zip codes in or around Fresno CA with multiple missing packages addressed to a single jewelry business located within Fresno. There is an open case with the Office of the Inspector General which has assigned an investigator to the case and they are looking into the links between the packages and possible ongoing thefts. If you have had any packages go missing sent through the post office system please call Scott Bradshaw at 801-397-3434.
If you are wondering if this will affect your shipping coverage on your jewelers block policy the answer is no. Coverage will not be affected by the this investigation though it would be wise to be cautious when sending to the areas in or around Fresno CA. It also appears that this problem is only affecting priority mail express packages. Please remember Jewelers Mutual and Berkley Asset Protection Policy Holders will have coverage for USPS registered mail. Which is a much more secure option though it will take longer to arrive at any destination when shipped this way.
While the investigation continues here are some tips for shipping jewelry to minimize your exposure to theft:[/fusion_text][button link=”http://www.benchmark-insurance.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/cc13-the-safe-way-to-ship-jewelry-poster-72013.pdf” color=”blue” size=”” stretch=”yes” type=”” shape=”” target=”_self” title=”” gradient_colors=”|” gradient_hover_colors=”|” accent_color=”” accent_hover_color=”” bevel_color=”” border_width=”” icon=”” icon_position=”left” icon_divider=”no” modal=”” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”1″ animation_offset=”” alignment=”” class=”” id=””]Download Tip Sheet[/button][/fullwidth]
